hearth & home

We arrived back from London very late last night and have spent the day realigning ourselves to the home environment..

It was disappointing to find that the heavy snow which had fallen on Sunday had largely melted away by Monday, but our garden, like the Selfish Giant's, was still wintry, lying as it does on the north-facing slopes of the Cairn valley. Jess and I went out this afternoon to enjoy the last of the snow and the snow-melt at Routin Brig (see extras).

Living in the countryside and in northern latitudes, we are also very conscious of the  movements of the sun around our house. Even since I went away a week ago, the angle of the sun at midday has risen from 13.8 to 15.5 degrees above the southern horizon, and the day length has increased from 7 hours 46 minutes to 8 hours 12 minutes. In the city, you might not notice this so much, but here it gladdens the heart :-)
