Face to face

I spotted a very early queen hornet at Dancersend Nature reserve today. It was on an old shattered oak tree where there are plenty of cavities for it to start a new nest. However, it is very early for it to be active...and it rtarted to be very active when I stuck my camera in macro mode a few centimetres from its face! I decided to play safe and got some shots from a little further away.
