MonoMonday: Fantasy

Fantasy has been popular throughout history but has taken a new turn with the arrival of elaborate fantasy computer games.

My own first experience of this was a text-based adventure game called "Countdown to Doom" on the BBC Micro in the 1980s. Your spaceship had crashlanded on a strange planet and all sorts of mishaps could happen. I got well through it but always managed to die before the end.

Since then, computer games have advanced dramatically. Our Sons #2&3 have enjoyed hours of fun playing Guild Wars - "an online roleplaying game that rewards player skill and innovative gameplay". I think it appeals to the hero wish which lots of us have (probably mainly but not exclusively young males) - the website says: "In a world torn by conflict, where human kingdoms are all but destroyed and guilds sacrifice all for a chance to control the Hall of Heroes, a champion must rise from the ruins of a once-proud land to lead refugees from the ashes and fulfill an ancient prophecy. Will that hero be you?".

Anyway, as I wondered what to blip today, my wonderful Editor reminded me that we've never redecorated Son #3's bedroom since he left home. So all I had to do was to photograph a couple of the posters on his wall. Fantasy blip sorted.

Of course, judging by the curvaceous nature of these obviously-female warriors, they may appeal to another of a young (or even not-so-young) male's fantasies...!  ;-))

Thanks yet again to Skeena for his supervision of MonoMonday and his hosting this month.
