Self Portrait with Mask
Had some fun with this image. I've been wanting to this for awhile now and had some thoughts about how to go about it. Mainly I wanted it to be fairly dark and gloomy. In my chaotic studio.
Now purists will recognise that there are a number of issues with this photo. But pretty much everything about the image is well considered. The drape with the diagonal movement and the left was left purposely, as is the bit of the fan on the lower right. I deliberately placed myself in front of the shelving, and the overall key of the photo is low, which is what I wanted. I burned the area of the mask were my eyes were, and added a vignette to draw the eye further to the centre. I used a bounce flash.
The only thing that is faintly annoying is the "shine" on the top part of the mask. I tried cloning and healing it out to no avail.
I shot a lot of exposures with different poses and lighting - shooting with a remote. Then walking back to the camera to check the image.
Very enjoyable - and I like the result that I eventually arrived at.
