Happy Ada day

Ada Lovelace, mathematician, colleague of Babbage, daughter of Byron, and scientist who helped create and disseminate the first computer language, has always been a favourite historical character of mine. She was married to the earl of Lovelace who had a mansion at east horsley, a little village that was the first place mr m and I lived in when we first arrived in England. It still has lots of picturesque cottages scattered about called Lovelace cottages.
Today is Ada Lovelace day, an annual commemoration to the contribution made by female scientists (also known in more radical circles as ... Scientists) and we attended a comedy / performance / eccentric evening if entertainment at this lovely hall at the institute of engineering and technology.
This scientist is demonstrating light refraction patterns, and ended her slot with the audience throwing plastic balls about in an interactive nuclear explosion.
Great fun. Bizarre.
