tooting market
this is an ironic photo, since D has pledged not to buy anything (except food) in 2018.
we spent an enjoyable afternoon wandering around the Upper Tooting Road and Tooting Market. Tooting is supposed to be the coolest part of London just now. It's the most multicultural place I have ever been in. We visited the Indian Wholesale shop to stock up on spices, dates and pulses. There was an amazing variety of fresh vegetables, some I'd never see before. Lots of lovely green beans of all kinds.
Tooting Market has been open since 1930 and is scheduled for demolition as the new Crossrail line will terminate here. There is a petition to try to stop it, but I doubt it will succeed. It reminded me of Brunel's Thames Tunnel, which was also a shopping arcade and is now a railway tunnel. Such is the march of progress.
Sarah is busy cooking up a bean stew for our dinner. It smells delicious. Then we are going out for a new experience...a Gong Bath. Will let you know tomorrow how we got on.
