The Elie Chainwalk
Always up for a bit of danger, I decided to spen some time tackling the Elie Chainwalk - a scramble over sea cliffs aided by a series of chains.
The "walk" dates back to the 1920's when it was used by fishermen to access the unusual flat rockbeds which are submerged at high tide. Lobster pots were bolted to the rockbeds which meant that at low tide, the fishermen could make a catch without going near a boat.
Today, the Chainwalk is the preserve of adventurous tourists. There are 8 chains in total - some are traversing "guidelines" whilst others are essential for scaling 10 metre sea cliffs.
The old chains were replaced a few years ago with these shiny new ones after some enterprising people decided to steal them and sell them as scrap metal.
