Family History

On the ferry at 11.45pm and not long after 11.45am I was at Newcastle Central Station, and as it was a fairly calm crossing, I had slept most of the way.  My aunt, Liz, and my cousin were there to meet me.  Really lovely to see them both again.

My cousin Andy, his wife and two teenagers are over from Australia and as it's been twelve years since we've met up, I decided to come down and see them again.  They are staying with Andy's mam, Molly, another aunt of mine, who is a retired history teacher.  I had a fascinating afternoon as she showed me some of the family history that she has been collating for several years.  She's traced some of us back to the Northumberland Muster in 1538, so pretty good going!

Amongst the papers was my granda's Labour Certificate, from 1918, allowing him to leave school aged 13 to work in what was to be the Forestry Commission, as wood was desperately needed for the war effort.
