Taming The Lion
On our second day in Cape Town we took the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. There are stunning views but the most prominent sight is of Lions Head Mountain. (you can see the view of it from Table Mountain in my extra here)
It is 669 metres above sea level and really dominates. Today we decided to travel to the top by walking up it. We meant to start at 8am to avoid the heat but, enjoying our lay in, we started at 10.20am. It took us about 75 minutes of hard work to climb it. (a good description of the trek is here) It is a sweat inducing slog climbing steel ladders, boulders and holding onto steel chains but the views at the top over Cape Town are stupendous...well worth the journey.
My favourite photo is of Mrs BB at the top standing on a rock with a view overlooking part of Cape Town. The extra is the view from the top looking down the spine of Lions Head - from which you can see Robben Island where Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were imprisoned.
My entry for this weeks Wide Wednesday challenge, hosted by Steveng with the theme of 'travel'.
