Discombobulated Geese and Supermarket Gulls

Last Wednesday, the weather here turned very misty indeed, especially late afternoon/early evening.  This weather issue was causing much distress and confusion for our local flocks of Pink-Footed Geese.  We regularly hear them flying over the house, on their way to or from their feeding grounds on agricultural land (they feed on the sugar beet tops during the day which the farmers leave for them after harvesting the beet).  Then they return at dusk to their safe, night-time roosting areas on water nearby.  This particular evening the poor geese were flying around in a large circle over our house for ages calling and trying to locate other geese and the roosting areas.  This went on for hours and I still heard some calling in the early hours of the morning.  A member of our local bird club also reported similar activity over his house which is a few miles from here.  I did feel sorry for them.
 
What has that got to do with my blipfoto of a flower?  Well...nothing really, except that it was a bit of an emergency blip which I took at Waitrose, North Walsham, this afternoon.  Talking of which reminds me that one of the reasons I love that supermarket so much is less to do with the contents of the shelves, but more to do with the fact that when cruising the aisles, it’s often possible to hear Herring Gulls calling to each other.  They fly around above the supermarket calling to each other in that typical 'seaside' way.  I’m not sure if it’s the ‘warehouse’ style high roof or the roofing material which reverberates but whatever it is, it’s a delight to hear, and reminds me that we’re not very far from the coast at Cromer.
 
The result of all this is to realise and appreciate just what a delight it is to hear our avian friends going about their daily business in this wonderful area of the UK.  Even a mundane day has its highlights!
