Birthday

Today my patient turned 70. On birthdays, around here, you get to do whatever you want. We ended up driving all over the place. It was a clear, warm winter day, everything looking lovely, even from the freeway.
First, we visited his parents' grave at the National Cemetery, then drove to Vancouver to visit Bob, the trombonist. During their visit yesterday, Eric ended up buying Bob's trombone as he doesn't play it anymore. We picked it up today, so Eric's birthday present was the horn he had coveted for years. I remember him talking about that very horn. Bob bought it new in 1943, and it's in perfect condition. But the horn in today's Extra is Bob's Medusa horn that he gave to Eric as a surprise gift. I think he was happy to get it out of the house, myself. It's one regular trombone with three non- functioning bells attached. Silly. And just where are we going to keep it?
Next was the daily injection at Kaiser followed by salmon for dinner at nearby Overlook Restaurant. Not a place we typically go, but it's closing for good soon, so we had to go there one more time. The end of an era. Is there a theme to all this!
