Galanthus

A fine Snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis) in flower in a trough beside one of the walls of Sissinghurst Castle, Kent, which we visited this afternoon - partly to see the bits of the property that are open this winter, but mainly to catch the 'Clangers, Bagpuss and Co' exhibition before it closes at the start of February.

We are not sure what variety of Snowdrop this is: a label in the trough informed visitors that the varieties 'Elwesii' and 'Jacquenetta' were both growing in there.

It was a bright sunny afternoon: the birdsong was beautiful, and the day ended with the Sun setting as a brilliant golden orb, seen through the windows of the South Cottage during the final guided tour of the day.
