Next on the list - plastic straws!

Following the announcement that the Scottish Government is to ban plastic cotton buds there is a campaign underway to similarly ban plastic straws. 

Both items get used for a few seconds or even minutes but then they stay around for the next 500 years!   They are getting washed up on our beaches and choking our wildlife.   Of course part of the problem - certainly with the plastic buds  - is that people flush them down the toilet. 

There are numerous reports of birds including puffins and gannets choking on these items.  And there is a horrible video on youtube of a plastic straw being removed from a sea turtle's nostril. 

Lots of people find these 2 products useful but there are biodegradable alternatives readily available.
