Louvre Entry
We set the alarm to make an 11:00 entry to the wonderful Louvre exhibition displayed on the column: François I and Dutch Art (it actually covers art of the Low Countries (Flanders as well as Holland). It focuses on the 1500s and seeks to correct the assumption that Italy was the main foreign influence on French art in that period. It argues that in fact the period "was equally marked by a vigorous tradition of Dutch artists settling in France." The show (which closes in two days) is every bit as superb as yesterday's Gauguin extravaganza at the Grand Palais.
