Starter for ten

Up and away, less than a week after leaving the equator, to the Arctic Circle. We'll be in Rovaniemi for a few days, hopefully to give ourselves some chance of seeing the Northern Lights (but I'm not that hopeful).

One thing I didn't expect to see on the streets here are bikes. In fact, apart from those that have been taken out of the game (this photo doesn't really give you a true reflection of how much snow there is lying on the ground), there are masses of them being ridden around. It would seem that just because there is packed snow and ice on the ground (sprinkled with a modicum of grit) that isn't enough reason for many Finns to give up their cycling habits.

Still suffering the effects of jetlag, so halfway through our evening watchathon of the accumulated Christmas University Challenge episodes my eyes started drooping. How long is the adjustment going to take me this time?
