What to choose?

Off on holiday next Saturday, to Costa Rica. I can't wait! Will be busy wildlifespotting and photographing while I'm there but will also need some reading material, if only for the flights. But what?
I'm the sort of person who would rather read a good book numerous times than a bad book once. In fact I can tell within about 10 pages whether I'm going to enjoy a book and life's too short to persevere with something your not enjoying. I like contemporary fiction, no sci fi, not fond of historical, not shopping or shoes or anything girly. Any suggestions?
