Birthday Boy...

The highlight of today has been having the pleasure of helping this fine gentleman celebrate his 90th birthday.

Derek has led the most amazing and interesting life.  To try and summarise here would be impossible.  He did write his autobiography a few years ago, for his family.  I was lucky enough to borrow it and read it and for the most part,  it kept me on the edge of my seat with my jaw open,  as well as many moments laughing out loud.  What an remarkable man.

He was described today as quintessentially English and when taking the definition of quintessential ( representing the most perfect or typical example of a quality or class) into account, I couldn't agree more.  Scotland has claimed him though and England's loss is definitely our gain.

The celebration took place at the Park Lodge Hotel in Stirling, where we were warmly welcomed and had the most delicious lunch, in good company.  Derek was on sparkling form as usual, full of his usual charm and wit.  

It is an absolute pleasure to know him and we are honoured to count him as our friend.
