Pass the chew toy...
Backblip
My stepdad John and Norma were supposed to come for a belated Christmas dinner on 29th December but we had to postpone because of the snow. Thankfully the weather was great today so they had a lovely drive here. Lots of blue sky and snow on the hills. Beautiful.
As ever, when we get together with this pair we have a lovely time and a right old giggle. John is one of the funniest people I know. He has a joke for every occasion and is so quick witted even the most mundane conversation ends in fits of giggles.
They arrived at 3pm and we started off with coffee and cake (I decided today was not a day to be calorie counting since it was a belated Christmas meal ;-)) and exchanging gifts. They were just as excited to see Lola as she was to see them. In fact she was so hyper, David put her on the lead till she calmed down to fever pitch! Thankfully Norma and John are both dog lovers (and previous dog owners) so they are not fazed by her enthusiasm. In no time at all, Norma had Lola sitting beautifully giving her a paw.
Alan was just as excited to see Grandpa and Norma and enjoyed entertaining them in his new sitting room.
We had a lovely dinner of lentil soup, saddle of venison with cranberry and slow gin, creamy mash, carrots and cauliflower cheese, followed by Norma's favourite, rhubarb crumble and custard. John and I passed on the crumble but David and Norma struggled manfully on!
Lola, who's normally lying snuggled on the sofa or my lap at 10.30pm was still going strong playing pass the chew toy with John and Norma, before finally collapsing on her bed (see extra) which she is sleeping on at last, rather than getting jiggy with it! :-)
