I read somewhere not to place the cat's water bowl next to his food because, in the wild and next to dead prey, the water nearby would likely be contaminated therefore they drink from a source some distance from their food. This is some distance, for sure, but I can hardly believe his water dish is more germy than this particular bowl. Dumb kitty. He's so bored and dejected from being stuck in the house that I let him mess around in there just for a bit of fun.
