Veranda with a view

Visited a local craft market in the town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Oh my I will never learn the game of bargaining with these people -there was hardly anyone there and everyone was so nice and polite and not pushy -I just would like to buy something from everyone - what is the point of negotiating $6 down to $4 when I'm sure they could use it. I did manage some small things and a wonderful tablecloth from a lovely woman. Then we went to watch a few of the "younger" people in our group do the jumpswing (not the bungy jump) off the gorge bridge near the falls- but alas it was closed temporarily for some nearby construction.
We had the afternoon "off" to enjoy this beautiful place so the blip for today is the view from the terrace where we eat breakfast and lunch. Can you find 4 zebra and 1 kudu? ( the wide angle makes them look farther away...) even in the middle of the very hot day, there are always some animals to see from our own Victorian veranda or anywhere else here including several different antelope, giraffes, and zebras - and there are millions of birds. Our UW prof along on our tour is a birder as well as an environmental sociologist....very helpful!

Before dinner we had 2 lectures, one from the UW prof ( this was # 2 of 4,) with some good insights about the mammals and the environment. Then a lively talk from a local guy with stories about David Livingstone ( we are staying at the Stanley and Livingstone hotel - he seems to have taken the credit for "discovering" Victoria Falls" in 1855. never mind the folks who were here for the last 2 1/2 million years!!...)

Today was H's birthday so someone on the tour sang a cute birthday song after dinner and the chef of this excellent restaurant made a yummy Malba cake! Embarrassing for him but what is one to do but celebrate another fine year older?!

Tomorrow we are off to Botswana...and the Chobe National Park for some serious animal spotting!
