Can you eat it?

According to a lady we met whilst walking the answer is yes.
It's called a scabby woodcap or something like that - the big ones are about 6 inches across.
We are down in the New Forest for our first Randonnee tomorrow.
Randonnee = long distance cycle ride not against the clock.
Our ride tomorrow is 100km and we've calculated the last time we did anything like that distance was about 15 years ago!
Can't be that hard can it?
