Purple Iris.
Named in honour of the goddess of the rainbow. Among the Greek deities who lived on Mount Olympus, was one called Iris. She was the special messenger of Hera, the Queen goddess. When Iris carried messages from Heaven to Earth, she used the rainbow as her pathway. The ancients believed the flower to be especially loved and endowed by the gods and widely used it as a symbol of power. This iris was one of a bunch my son gave me when he arrived from Devon for a few days.
