Ta Da! (Yard Bird #5 - House Finch)
A common bird over much of the United States, this is a male House Finch. I tend to overlook these little birds in part because they are so common, but they really are pretty and, man, can they sing! Too cold for any singing right now, but in another few months, this male and his buddies will be filling the air with their long and delightfully musical songs.
It is a frigid 9 F today with wind. In a word, it is unpleasant. I am continuing to keep feeders and water topped off and the birds are enjoying both. I lasted only about 15 minutes before calling it quits and coming back inside. It's just too cold. Luckily, this shot came out okay so I have no reason to venture out again today - nor do I intend to! Curling up with a cat and a good book is all that's on my agenda this afternoon.
We had a most enjoyable visit with David and Gretel last night and this morning, before they left to head into NYC for a few days. MIL was so thrilled to see Gretel - seeing the two of them hugging and both talking at once was really heartwarming. We were having such a good time that we ended up getting MIL back to the home a little later than usual. Worth it, though.
Well, off to find that cat and that book. Be well, people. And to my friends in the "ice belt", please be safe out there.
