Thursday: Fred

Today was a really hard day. Fred had some tests done recently and, the evening before we left for our holiday, the vet rang to say that he was in end stage kidney failure. She couldn't guarantee that he'd still be here when we got back if he didn't get regular iv infusions.

Our catsitter, Maria, has been an absolute hero. She got the infusions and has been giving them to him twice a day. She has basically kept him going for us. When we got back, though, we could see that, even in a week, he had weakened a fair bit. He's still really responsive to us, though, and is delighted to see us.

I was due back at work today but decided to work from home so that we could take him to the vet. In short, we need to do the right thing. She asked if we were ready today but has now made him comfortable for about 48 hours so that we can have him just a little longer, particularly after being away.
