Purple People Eater
Probably a Purple Jelly Disc
Ascocoryne sarcoides
The sun put in an appearance late this afternoon so I popped out with my camera.
Twenty minutes later, I was still sitting in my car sheltering from heavy rain. Consequently, my outing was reduced to a quick trip into the woods very similar to yesterday.
This time I found a couple of birch logs exhibiting pinkish purple fruiting bodies of an unknown fungus. Once again they are small - less than 1 cm across.
Here is the most photogenic of them. I am not certain with my ID as this is an area that is mostly unknown to me - particularly the smaller ones.
