Who ate all the buckthorn?

It's a good time to visit Aberlady Bay in East Lothian - a bird reserve that gets busy with (amongst lots of others) fieldfares.  They've escaped the real cold of Scandinavia for a break in Scotland and they love to eat buckthorn berries - elsewhere in the Bay the bushes were covered in these bright orange delights.

At this time the berries are a little "fermented" which the birds appear to particularly like...

The Bay is always windy and there's a pleasant walk through the reserve to one of the many long sandy beaches on this coastline.  This bush nicely demonstrates how persistent this onshore wind is.

It's a shame I can only post one picture - we also saw roe deer and dippers.  It's not uncommon to see peregrine falcons as well - but not today.
