Tadcaster Bridge

This morning we went for a roam around Tadcaster. This is the road bridge which partially collapsed when the river Wharfe rose to an exceptionally high level just over two years ago. It was closed for some time whilst they did the repairs, causing much disruption for the locals. The river level appears to be higher than usual, but not as high as when the bridge collapsed.
You can see the repaired section clearly - perhaps in time it will acquire a weathered look. Close up, it appears to be made of modern 'reconstituted' stone rather than the traditional stone blocks. Hopefully it will prove just as resilient to whatever Mother Nature throws at it.
Todays extra is a view from the bridge looking up the street towards the centre of town where you can see the tower of the famous John Smith's Brewery.
For anyone visiting Tadcaster, we can recommend 'The Lemon Tree' cafe on the main street for an excellent lunch.
