Shoebury Garrison
Woke up to a truly lovely October day. Decided on a walk in Shoebury Garrison which is a favourite walk of mine when Chris at home. He used to work for mod and played cricket on the square before it was sold for redevelopment. The blip is of a long building which was used for drills and storage when he worked there. Cannot find out what it was originally used for but it has been partially restored.
In 1845 an artillery practice and testing station was formed. 1852 Officers Mess and servant's quarters were built. 1859 it became a dedicated School of Gunnery for Royal Artillery. From 1865 the station was used for annual artillery contests by the National Artillery Association. Residential units were in place until 1976 when HQ disbanded. In 2010 restoration of Officers Mess started and other buildings restored and new ones built.
Hope you all had good weekend
