Diary of an Edinburgher

On the Road!

A leisurely morning spent in PJs, watching Sunday am TV, fiddling with my new filter, and reading the papers on my iPad. I think I've discovered why my long exposures yesterday were white. There is a rotating ring, with tiny tiny marks indicating max and min, and I discovered a tiny wee arrow, which did not show itself while on the beach yesterday. So did a few 2 minute exposures. This is MUCH easier on a sofa, watching TV, warm and dry, than standing in the drizzle with wet feet on a beach. Sussed!

The day was glorious sunshine one minute, and drizzly mizzle the next. We walked down to the cinema in the former, and came home in the latter. We went to see 'On the Road'. The story of Jack Kerouac. I never read the book, as the Beat Generation didn't quite reach the West of Scotland. It was long, somewhat tedious, lots of long driving scenes, as the title suggests, as well as drugs scenes, sex scenes, drinking scenes... but on a Woody Allen scale, it was brilliant!

Bag packing tonight. Off to Englandshire. A posh (for us) hotel with dinner, afternoon tea at Chatsworth House, hopefully with the Duchess, and wee look around the area. We have a few favourite places from when we travelled in the van- Matlock Bath, where we stayed an extra night to see the famous 'Luminations, and Eyam, the plague village. And, of course, Bakewell for a couple of tarts!

Must go the right way this time. Added hours on to our journey last time we went south by going down the A1 instead of the M6. This time we have a GPS. And the AA route printed out, not merely entrusted to memory (mine) the night before.

Added a couple more photos from yesterday if you care to look. Here and here.
