Back on the Grump Trail
The sun came out after lunch today so we thought we should have at least a short walk outside! We walked up to our local 'beauty spot', McCaig's Tower, which is only a couple of hundred yards away from our house and the scene of last night's brilliant firework display.
The view was wonderful as always, though clouds were piling up on the horizon and heading our way. I was disappointed, however, to see so much rubbish thrown over the rail of the viewing platform and lying in the vegetation below, in full view of the large numbers of tourists who visit this place every day throughout the year. My fellow Blipper Canny Scot will be delighted to see me back on the Grump Trail, but I can't deny that it's hard to be positive when there are so many thoughtless and uncaring people about, who after making the effort to walk up from the town, throw their bottles, cans, takeaway boxes and coffee cups over the rail. A number of local people clean this up from time to time, but as there's no litter bin up there rubbish gets disposed of in the easiest way possible - over the top!
'Keep Oban Beautiful' will be on the warpath shortly - the council, cash-strapped though it may be, is going to get very fed up with our demands for more litter bins which are regularly emptied. What we really have to do is to find a way of persuading the public to stop littering - original suggestions on a postcard please!
