Fungi beat flowering plants
I carried out the annual NewYearsDayPlantHunt for the Botanical Society of the British Isles (BSBI) at Dancersend Nature Reserve today. It was a lot harder this year to find plants in flower. I managed just 10 species in the end, but a couple of these - Burnet saxifrage and Large Thyme - were unexpected. Whilst searching intently for flowers during the allotted 3 hours, I saw lots of fungi however. One of my favourites, which I've hardly seen this year is this one - the ghostly Helvella crispa.
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!
