Armed with a map from the BLM office.
We felt confident,
Venturing into the HMA (wild horse management area).

We drove 90 miles through a maze
Of unmarked dirt roads.
Some dead-ended.
Some faded away.
Some too steep to travel.

Our map.
Difficult to reference without road signs.

No sign of people or cars or horses.
No scat.
No trails.

Only cows.
Happy ones.
Wallowing around the watering holes,
Where we'd hoped to see horses.

Such is the life of wildlife photography.
Oh, I did find a wasp nest.
Escaped with only two bites.
Luckily, I carry a supply of ointments and
Med's to cover even bites.
