St Monans Windmill

Sadly all good things come to an end, and today was the end of our delightful holiday in the East Neuk of Fife. We were up quite early to pack up and were on our way home by 9am.

I just had time before we set off to take one last holiday blip, and had to stroll no further than 10 yards from the front door of our cottage for this view of St Monans Windmill.

The mill was part of an 18th century salt producing industry located on the shoreline. The process involved evaporating sea water by burning low grade coal which was otherwise unsaleable, and both these raw ingredients were readily available here. The mill was used for pumping the sea water into the salt pans.

Our journey home went very smoothly - no traffic jams anywhere. I don't think I have ever seen the M6 so quiet.
