Charismatic Megafungi
Today, Roger and I led the fungus foray that we reccied yesterday. It was a small but perfectly formed group. As neither of us are confident with the LBJs (Little Brown Jobs) / SBMs (Small Brown Mushrooms) of this world, we explained that we would be focussing on what I called Crowd Pleasers i.e. larger, more easily identifiable fungi. Roger offered the phrase above, which I used as today's title, as I thought it was rather splendid. For an explanation of its derivation, see here.
This Shaggy Scalycap (Pholiota squarrosa) was pretty much the first fungus we saw, and caused a few oo's and aa's. Result!
Off to RSPB Old Moor tomorrow for another foray.
