The Athens of the North
I was in Edinburgh this morning, to drop Cailean at the airport for his trip to Stockholm.
I then stopped at the flat briefly before Cathleen and I took Rula for a walk in Holyrood Park.
I hadn’t been up the ridge above St Mary’s Loch for years and had therefore forgotten this tremendous view that reveals itself there showing a range of the city’s architecture .
Today it was not only bathed in winter sunlight but it was also dominated by cranes engaged in even more reconstruction of the “Athens of the North” ( though given the temperature today which scarcely rose above freezing Tom Stoppard’s description of it in “Jumpers” as the “Reykjavik of the South” seemed as apt).
