Last light

We were among the crowds who made a relatively early  morning trip to M & S for the last few bits of food - the queues for the checkouts were humongous but the customers were good-humoured and the staff plied us with chocolate biscuits to prevent any ugly scenes.

The rest of the day was largely spent cooking - two rich fruit cakes made as presents, our Christmas cake decorated and the red cabbage  cooked. It had been a  mostly grey day, with the odd spell of weak wintry sunshine, but at dusk the sky began to colour up. I had to wait for my second cake to finish cooking before jumping in the car and dashing down to the Rowing Lake to catch an unexpected Christmas Eve sunset.
