Terror at the feeders

I spotted this sparrowhawk standing on the fence next to the feeders this morning and I suspect he was not looking forward to dining on sunflower hearts. A few feet away from the feeders is a fairly dense holly bush which the sparrows use as shelter when feeding; a few seconds after I took this shot he flew right into the centre of the bush, and three sparrows flew straight out! The sparrowhawk came out empty handed (beaked?) a few moments later; no lunch for him on this occasion.

We've just been up to the Carol Service at the village church; now back home, Prosecco poured, and the buffet about to be attacked. Have a lovely Christmas, everyone!
