24th December 1895
The date of the Lifeboats tragedy where 15 men from this area were lost at sea while trying to rescue the SS Palme. There was a commemoration ceremony at the end of the pier today - then the present members of the Dun Laoghaire Lifeboats boarded the boat and exited the harbour. They then laid wreathes out in the Bay to the sound of the piper standing near the lookout tower.

I was glad to be there. It was a breezy, bright day. I then met my son off the DART and we had coffee in the People's Park. My daughter comes home this evening also.
