A short trip to Bosham (allegedly)

This afternoon we made a short trip to Bosham. Here we walked along the shoreline where - allegedly - King Canute proved that he could not stop the tide. I say 'allegedly' because there are at least three other places designated as the site of this incident.

We also called into the church to see the tomb of King Canute's daughter (allegedly again), who (also allegedly) drowned in a nearby millstream. The church is also of interest because it is depicted in an early scene of the Bayeux tapestry. This we know for certain :-)

There were a few interesting tombstones in the the church graveyard. The carving of the ship on this one captured my attention, as did the sad tale of Thomas Barrow who 'by the breaking of the horse fell into the sea and was drown'd October the 13th 1759 aged 23 years'.

After our little tour of the village we stopped for drinks in a small tea room, then returned home so that Mr hazelh's mother could attend the crib service at the local church (and back at the house Mr hazelh could beat the rest of us at Catan - grrr!)

This evening offers the prospect of more family time - and food, drink and chocolate!
