Mummified

Walking off the beaten path in the woods sometimes leads me to slightly macabre sights like this corpse of a grey squirrel. Did the squirrel die in the tree and fall on to this branch ? Or did someone,or something, somehow place the dead squirrel on the branch (its nearly three metres off the ground)? The squirrel's insides have decomposed but the skin has remained intact slowly drying in the wind becoming,in effect, a mummified squirrel.
