Dickensian
Well Winchester's Christmas Market closes/has closed tonight. By the morning it will be nothing but padlocked huts. The ice rink will keep going until something like Jan 6th, but I guess the Cathedral would like it's space back for primary uses!
When I came out of there this evening, I took this shot of the William Walker pub just on the other side of the road from the Cathedral Close. I thought it looked immensely Dickensian, the way you can see figures through those steamed up windowns. It used to be known as the Old Market Inn and has been here for ever.
Recently rebranded The William Walker, it's named after the diver who saved Winchester Cathedral from collapse by spending years underpinning the foundations with bags of concrete. He died in the 'flu epidemic circa 1920.
Apart from that, today has been another pre-Christmas pub lunch and a short but intensely muddy walk along the River Itchen. it's a tough life ;)))
Happy Christmas hols/weekend (delete as appropriate) xx
