The Tyne

Off to Newcastle on the 8am train. The UK Biobank, of which I’m a volunteer participant, have invited 100,000 people to have a number of scans, at their new centres y’see. And our nearest is in Newcastle. There was a number of DXA bone density scans, MRI scans of the brain, heart and body, and an ultrasound scan of the blood vessels in the neck. All most interesting. And free sandwiches!
After that (just over four hours) I was turfed out and strolled along the quayside to the Baltic where there was a Susan Phillipsz installation - an early one with her singng Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust in a very dark room. Sounds not a lot, but it really was quite affecting. Not unlike being in a large scanning machine really.
