Oysters
Ostrea edulis
13th century oysters. These are the native European oyster, now much rarer than they were in mediaeval times. They were such a staple that Apprentices agitated to have a clause put in their contracts, stating that they could not be fed oysters more often than a certain number of days a week (four, I think?)
There's a funny story concerning me and Meles and half a dozen oysters on our second date...maybe I'll tell you about it one day, when you're older...
