Supplejack

Today my daughter, FirehorseMia, my son, Aliveunwed and I went for a picnic at Deans Bush. This is a remnant of forest preserved from pre-European times, and it is in Christchurch City. It’s a beautiful place, very peaceful even though the city bustles around it. Birdsong is the dominant sound. This large supplejack vine fascinates me. I was used to seeing them much thinner than that.

For the first time I saw my daughter’s rebuilt home that she has waited years for. It’s strange to see a new home that is strangely familiar- the same, but different. She will take a while to get used to it, I guess, though no longer having to live with all the earthquake damage will be a relief.
