Axe Estuary

This is the River Axe near to its mouth. A tidal river at this point so a haven for sea birds. In Roman times it was a port being at the start of a branch of the Foss Way.

For many years it has been s stop off point for a migrating Osprey and the local Authority has opened a wetlands center not far upstream from here.
