Precious Gifts
These are wedding presents given to David's mum and Dad when they married in 1957 and they have been in our loft since we cleared David's mum's house in 2007.
I don't think they were ever used.
Two sets of fish knives and forks, a set tea knives and a hand painted table cloth. The note pad is D's mum's list of the wedding gifts they received with ticks against each gift to indicate that a thank you note had been sent to the kind giver.
I loved my mum in law very much and I am honoured to have these. It seems such a shame that they are boxed away so I have decided that we are going to use them. Not sure when, but we will. Next time we have fish fingers! :)
Looking through her wedding gift list it is amazing how things have changed when it comes to wedding gifts. But also stayed the same.....there are towels, teasets, vases, table cloths and napkins, saucepans, cutlery etc etc but also some items that I am sure are never seen on modern wedding lists - 2 pillowcases, linen chair backs, pail and basin, hankrechiefs, coal scuttle and so on. Such a lovely piece of social history to have.
In other news, our Laura Ashley wardrobe that was delivered damaged weeks ago has been redelivered and built this morning and all is well. At last we have somewhere in the front hall to keep our outdoor jackets!
This afternoon's job is to tackle the utility room. When we moved in boxes were being unpacked in the kitchen and things shoved randomly in the cupboards in the utility room, just to get them out the way. It drives me nuts and this afternoon it will be sorted! :)))
Relaxing evening planned as a reward.
Hang in there folks, it's Friday!!! :-)))
