Cooking with chemistry
A simple stove top burner shows the same aspects in chemistry. Now a days, most stove tops are electric, but old fashion gas stove burner is an invention that changed lives, showing the usefulness of chemistry components and how it’s in everyday life. When ignited, either by a small flame or more commonly, by the twist of a knob, natural gases, propane, butane, or other flammable gases used as fuels, light and create a flame. For the example of propane gas (C3H8), when reacted to diatomic oxygen (O2), it creates carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor, and the heat you feel from the flame. This is known as a combustion reaction. In the picture you can also notice the blue flame instead of the normal red/orange color fire is. This is because the fire is very hot, burning the air and fuel.
