Grazing the gossamer fields...

Chris and I made the most of the sunny weather and headed out for a tour round the Lincolnshire Fens. We started at Deeping Lake, where the promised Long Eared Owls had gone flyabout. But there were plenty of other interesting birds including a little owl, several goldeneye and a couple of male goosander. There was also a swan having a very splashy bath on the River Welland (see extra).
Our drive along some very bumpy fen roads yielded many kestrels (we lost count!), a couple of buzzards and a hunting barn owl. We dropped in briefly at Willow Tree Fen where we spotted these sheep, quietly grazing a field that was densely covered with gossamer, and then finished up at Baston Fen, where there was a beautiful sunset, but no barn owls. A very good day.
