Help! More berries needed urgently.
The few female holly trees at Dancersend Reserve were finally stripped of all their berries during the the period of snow and ice last week. Having already snipped off a few sprigs for Christmas decorations, I was happy for the birds to have the rest. Today I noticed a couple of the male trees were starting to flower, as though they know there is a county-wide shortage of berries. Don't they also know, though, that the insect couriers of their pollen almost all have the winter booked as leave. Perhaps they sense a warm and sunny period soon.
