I often wondered why this tombstone has an anchor and chain wrapped around its cross.  I googled and apparently  the anchor was regarded as symbol of safety and was adopted by the Christians as a symbol of hope and steadfastness.  The broken chain symbolises cessation of life.    I think it looks rather sinister and the anchor and the chain are holding the tomb down so no one can escape! Suitable for the Mono Monday theme today!
